The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is the only SUV vehicle in its class that offers a way to get green without sacrificing quality and luxury. The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid seats up to eight. It is the only full luxxury SUV with a two mode hybrid system on the market. The Escalade Hybrid recieves about 50% better fuel economy, in city driving, than other conventional models and gets 40% increase in fuel economy overall.

The Escalade’s 2-mode hybrid system joins Cadillac’s Vortec 6.0 Liter V8 engine with Cadillac’s new Automatic EVT transmission. There are four driving gears within the EVT transmission which is helped by two electric motors. To conserve fuel, the V-8 engine has the brand’s Active Fuel Management System, which shuts off 4 cylinders in light load conditions. The gasoline engine shuts off at stops or when idoling but restarts when needed, while the electric motor allows the engine to run in a 4 cylider mode more often.

With light throttle, the electric motors can propel the New Cadillac Escalade up to 30 mph, but together the electric motor and gasoline engine produce 332 hp and 367lb.ft. of torque. The electric motors, electric steering system, and the electric air conditioning compresser are all powered by a 300 volt battery pack located under the second row seats. Regenerative braking will charge the batteries. Front and all wheel drive options are available for the Escalade Hybrid. The hybrid powertrain is only available on a standard length Escalade.

As far as towing capability, the new Cadillac Escalade will be rated to tow up to 6000 pounds with rear wheel drive and 5700 pounds with all wheel drive. The Escalade Hybrid comes equipped with and eight inch touch screen showcasing a hybrid drive system, allowing the driver to see which mode the SUV is functioning in. To encourage better fuel economy, the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid comes with an economy gauge that represents which zones the drivers should drive in.  The tachometer in the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid includes an Auto Stop reading that indicates when the gasoline engine is shut off.
